Stephen J. Mazzei, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2020 at the age of 78. Born on January 2, 1942 in Boston, MA, Steve moved to New York with his new wife Geraldine (Rizzo) Mazzei in 1964 where he worked at IBM until 1993. After working as a teamster car hauler, he retired in 2005. In his younger days, Mr. Mazzei was an avid square dancer and later an O gauge train collector. He was a hands-on guy who would work on his own cars and passed that knowledge along to whoever wanted to learn. He is survived by Gerri, his loving wife of 56 years, son Stephen Jr., daughter Kathaleen, his 4 grandchildren Christopher, Ashley, Brendan and Logan, and his sister Lucretia Osborne of Braintree, MA. A patient teacher and an even more patient father, Steve was known by his friends as a man that would do anything to help out. As a father and grandfather, he never lost his patience and never raised his voice. Loved by all who knew him, Mr. Mazzei will be remembered during a memorial visitation on Thursday, December 31, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A memorial service will follow visitation at 12 noon at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest following services at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Masks must be worn and social distancing practiced for all services.
