Obituary of Helen M. Vidunas

Helen M. Vidunas, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Sunday, March 2, 2025. She was 91.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Riscavage) Jerostic, she was born on October 22, 1933 in Luzerne, Pennsylvania. She married Eugene J. Vidunas on May 5, 1956 at St. Hedwig's Church in Kingston, PA. Mr. Vidunas preceded her in death, passing on January 21, 1997.

Helen was a graduate of Luzerne High School, Class of 1951. She went on to spend her years making a warm and loving home for her husband and two children. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and always everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Helen was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. She also enjoyed staying active in local politics.

Survivors include her son, Eugene J. Vidunas and his wife, Bernadette of Middletown; daughter, Janice Kelly and her partner, Robert DeLuca of Wappingers Falls; grandchildren, Joseph Vidunas, Jessica Kelly, Jake Vidunas and his partner, Samantha Vargas, Stefan Vidunas, Owen Vidunas and John Vidunas and his wife, Kristen.  Mrs. Vidunas was predeceased by her grandson, Shawn Michael Kelly.  She also leaves behind great-granddaughter, Eleanor,  and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Janice Esposito.

Family will receive their friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9 in Fishkill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to St. Mary’s Food Pantry, 11 Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
