Richard and Anita VanSlalmbrouck were the wonderful representation of a Catholic Pro Life Family. Rich was truly a devoted
Catholic man. He spent most of his life participating in the Pro Life Cause. We had a small Pro Life Society here at St.
Mary's, but we accomplished a log because of one man Rich VanSlambrouck. Richard was our strength. Our leader.
Some of the functions we held to promote the Pro Life cause were the Baby Bottle collection (successful), the baby diaper
collecctions, one of the most popular functions was the annual "adopt a baby" at he beginning of Lent. We would have
baskets of pink and blue ribbons on the altar and we had a special Mass. Adults and children were allowed to pick a ribbon
and name their baby. They were to pray for the baby all through Lent. It was popular and it promoted "Life for all babies".
Of course, do not forget the annual Pro Life Chain along route 9 Poughkeepsie. Rich made sure that our parish church was
well represented. On year the Pro Life Sisters were passing by and saw us, they came and participated with us. Boy, were
we happy. There were the monthly Pro Life marching along Church Street Of course, there was always a representation
in front of the Planned Parenthood office, sometimes only Richard. He would always be there. Many babies were saved.
Rich also traveled out of town and out of state to promote the Pro Life Cause. A couple of times, he risked being arrested.
I have only touched on the activities led by Richard in our Parish. He was also a lector and many times was on the altar
when there was no altar server present. Please pray for Richard. I will never forget Richard
. He was such a role model for the men/boys of our church. We women loved and copied his love of life.

So sorry to hear about your Dad passing. I remember him from high school games and practices. Not very many interactions but he always always, always had very kind, purposeful and inspiring words as well as his presence. Thoughts and prayers.
