Obituary of John J. Varuolo, Sr.

John J. Varuolo, Sr., 99, of Wappingers Falls, NY died peacefully on May 9, 2025, at Castle Point VA in Wappingers Falls, NY.  He was born in Manhattan to the late Giuseppe and Concetta Varuolo on June 24, 1925.  John grew up in Manhattan with his late sister, Julia, and his three late half brothers.  John attended Epiphany Elementary School and Haren High School both in Manhattan.  At the age of 18, John entered into the Army Air Corp., where he served our country during WWII, until he became disabled.  He was honorably discharged in 1944.  Medals he received include The World War II American Defense Commemorative, The World War II American Campaign Medal, The Cold War Victory Medal, The U.S. Army Service Commemorative, and The Honorable Discharge Commemorative.  Once discharged from the Air Corp., John furthered his education at Pace College in Manhattan where he studied Accounting.  John met his best friend, Anita, whom he married in 1963.  They moved to Valhalla in 1973 where together, they raised two wonderful children.  They were married for 52 amazing years. John dedicated 20 years to the Army Pictorial Center as an accountant.  He worked for the I.R.S. as their budget analyst for 10 years.  John continued working at Farand Control in Valhalla as their Corporate Accountant for 8 years and then at Hudson Wire Company in Ossining for another 8 years.  John was a parishioner of St. Mary Mother of the Church in Fishkill.  John was Kind, caring and selfless.  He loved attending METS games with his family.  He was a season ticket holder for many years.  He also loved cheering on the Hudson Valley Renegades.  It gave him great pride to watch his grandsons play ball.  He loved nothing more than spending time with all of his grandsons.  John was a faith-filled person who gave of himself in so many ways. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Valhalla Lions Club.

John is survived by his son, John (Provvidenza) Varuolo of White Plains; daughter, Angela (Michael) Molina of Wappingers Falls; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher and Alexander Varuolo, and Michael-John and Matthew Molina; nephews, Michael (Tiffany) Gramolini of Flushing, Richard (Samantha) Gramolini of Arizona, Richard (Doreen) Varuolo of PA and nieces Mary Varuolo of CT, and Barbara Varuolo of NY.  John is also survived by many other great nieces and nephews and special friends.

Friends may visit on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 4pm to 8pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street in Fishkill. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY.
