Shirley A. DeHart Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Shirley Ann DeHart who left this world peacefully on July 13, 2025 at the age of 68. While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life she lived: a life filled with love, kindness and quiet strength.

She was born June 25, 1957 in Wappingers Falls, NY to Elizabeth Thayer Flanagan and Arthur Michael Flanagan. She grew up surrounded by love and strong family values that she carried with her throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Wally DeHart .Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and many cherished memories. Shirley was the heart and soul of her family, a constant source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. She had a special way of making everyone feel special and valued, welcoming all with her warm smile and gentle spirit. She was there for anyone who was in need. Her words always seemed to come at just the right moment, offering encouragement and hope.

Shirley dedicated her life to her family. She was a wonderful homemaker and her compassion extended far beyond her own family. Shirley touched countless lives with her generosity and grace. Her greatest joy came from her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Tonya Tomlins and her husband, Rudolph Tomlins of Wappingers Falls and Tracy (Sunshine ) DeHart and her boyfriend, Keith Hernandez of Wappingers Falls; her beautiful grandchildren, Shena DeHart of Wappingers Falls, Arianna Elizabeth DeHart of Wappingers Falls and Jelani Mitchell of Wappingers Falls; her great-grandchildren Isaiah and Azariah Mitchell of Wappingers Falls and Mylah Marie of Poughkeepsie; her sister, Alicia Tarantino and partner, John White of Wappingers Falls; nephew, John White Jr. of Poughkeepsie; and many friends and family who loved her and who will forever cherish the memories of her love, her stories, her hugs, and the way she made each day a little brighter. Though our hearts ache with sorrow, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on in every loving memory and every life she touched. We are grateful for the years we had with her and we will carry her spirit with us always.
