Michael J. Kelly Obituary

Michael J. Kelly, a longtime area resident, entered into rest Sunday, August 17, 2025 at home. He was 88.

Born to Irish immigrants on March 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Michael and Celia “Sally” (Connolly) Kelly. He was born and raised in the Inwood section of New York City. Michael married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Jane Ekins, on October 24, 1959 in New York City. They spent their years raising their family and traveling the world together. Mrs. Kelly preceded him in death, passing on May 3, 2011.

Michael was a proud alumnus of Power Memorial High School and Manhattan College, in New York City. He went on to enjoy a long career with IBM, retiring as a Senior Engineer. Michael was actively involved in his community, including interest in local science fairs. He was a longtime member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Wappingers Council #1646, as well as past president of the Dutchess County Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a founder and past Grand Marshall of the Dutchess County St. Patrick’s Parade and involved in the New York City St. Patrick’s Parade; they were both important to him and his deep connection to his Irish heritage.

In his spare time, Michael was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was also a longtime volunteer and parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls.

Survivors include his four sons, Michael and wife, Louise of Northport, Thomas and wife, Tricia of Saratoga Springs, Kevin and wife, Pam of Clifton Park and Glen of Rexford; his grandchildren, Michael, Shannon, Meg, Katherine, Liz, Matthew, Erin, Caroline, Jack and McKenna; and great-grandson, Rory.
