Marianne Cerniglia Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Marianne Cerniglia, age 76, of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, who departed this life peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Born on October 21, 1948 in Poughkeepsie, New York, Marianne’s journey was woven with love, adventure, and devoted service to others.

Marianne was the cherished daughter of the late Mariano and Doris Cerniglia and was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Broast, and her brother, Dominic Cerniglia. She will be dearly missed by her siblings and their families: Angela Rhoderick and her husband David of West Tisbury, MA; Frances Evangelista and her husband Barney of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Mark Cerniglia and his wife Veronica of Poughkeepsie, NY. Marianne’s legacy continues with her seven nieces and nephews and their thirteen children who adored their “Aunt Mare” for her warmth and strength.

Marianne studied at Dutchess Community College and thrived in a successful career with IBM. Her work took her across the globe, feeding a passion for travel and expanding her world with rich experiences and enduring friendships. Marianne was known for her kindness, generosity, and a bright curiosity that inspired all who knew her.

Marianne’s devotion to faith and community shone through her membership at Saint Brendan The Navigator Catholic Church, where she was a dedicated volunteer. She found great joy and fulfillment in supporting church needs and building connections within her faith community.

A passionate gardener, Marianne earned her certification as a Master Gardener and was a devoted steward of the earth. She shared her talents generously to beautify her town and protect the environment. Her love for nature was expressed through her commitment to the Sunset Beach Turtle Program, gathering vital data for North Carolina’s endangered species program, and volunteering at Brookgreen Gardens, where she taught visitors about local wildlife.

Marianne was a spirited golfer, cherishing time spent on the course with friends and family. Always community-minded, she was a member of the Brunswick Country Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy—giving of herself in new ways, always eager to learn and contribute.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Marianne’s life on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Wednesday, September 3 at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.

The family encourages donations to a cause close to Marianne’s heart—whether environmental preservation, wildlife protection, or local community gardens—in honor of her tireless efforts to make the world a more beautiful and caring place.

With profound gratitude, the family extends heartfelt thanks to Marianne’s caregivers, friends, and church community for their unwavering support and compassion during her final journey. Marianne’s radiant love, limitless generosity, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
