Kathryn Anne Duffy Obituary

Kathryn Anne (Betterton) Duffy, 76, of Poughkeepsie, NY, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025.


Born in Yonkers, NY, on October 21, 1948, Kathryn attended Ladycliff College in Highland Falls, NY. On November 13, 1971, she married the love of her life, Edward Duffy. Together they shared 53 years of marriage until Edward’s passing in June of 2023.


Kathryn was deeply devoted to her faith. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls, and later, she and Edward found their spiritual home at St. Martin de Porres Parish in Poughkeepsie. She also gave generously of her time as president of the Mothers Guild at St. Mary’s and as president of the Town of Wappinger Female Softball League.


A natural leader and mentor, Kathryn coached cheerleading at Roy C. Ketcham High School and Marist College throughout the 1980s and 1990s, sharing her enthusiasm, energy, and encouragement with countless students.


In addition to her community work, Kathryn devoted her professional life to real estate. She earned the highest designation for residential real estate, the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), which she held since 1991. She was also a respected leader in her field, serving as State Director of Education and Dutchess County Director of Education for the Women’s Council of Realtors. Known as a professional trainer, motivator, speaker, and educator, Kathryn dedicated herself to mentoring and inspiring both colleagues and aspiring realtors. Together with Edward, she co-owned Kathi Duffy Realty/Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate and operated The Real Estate Learning Center from 1997–2004, shaping the careers of many in the industry.


Kathryn’s life was defined by her love of family, faith, and community. She will be remembered for her kindness, her dedication, and her generous spirit.


She is survived by her three sons, Michaeljon, Edward Jr., and Christopher (and wife Michelle), and her grandchildren, Michael and Logan Duffy. She is also survived by her sister, Gertrude Talamini, and her brothers, Claude and Lawrence Betterton. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Duffy, and her brother, Francis Betterton.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road in Poughkeepsie.
