Ernest Leo Pilon, Jr., passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on September 7, 2025.  He was born in 1932 in Northampton, Massachusetts and raised in Easthampton, Massachusetts by Margaret Cecilia and Ernest Leo Pilon, Sr. He attended St. Michael's School and went on to graduate from Fordham University in the Bronx with a degree in chemistry.  He met Mary York, the love of his life, while living in Massachusetts  and they married in 1954 and moved to Wappingers Falls, NY where he remained until his death. Ernie worked over 40 years for Texaco in Glenham, NY as a chemist.   Ernie, as he was known by many, was an avid reader, and up until his mid to late 80s enjoyed skiing and golf.  Ernie was a devoted husband, a loving and giving father and grandfather, and was kind, generous, warm, steadfast, strong and sharp-witted.    

He is survived by his sons, David Pilon, Michael (and Maryann) Pilon and their children, Lea & Cole Pilon, Peter Pilon, and Paul (and Sabrina) Pilon and their children, Emma & Tessa Pilon; his daughter-in-law, Marie Pilon; grandchildren, Michael Ryan Pilon, Erin Pilon-Yacab (and Manny), Laura Fulmer (and Bryan); and his great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Pilon (York) and his son, Richard Pilon.  

Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls, NY on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Mount Alvernia Retreat Center, Wappingers Falls, NY and Holy Mountain Franciscan Retreat Center at Graymoor, Garrison, NY.
