Joseph J. Laird passed away peacefully at his home on September 8, 2025. Born May 5, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Helen and Robert Laird.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sharon Laird, daughters Jodi (David) Ogburn and Jenny (Kenny) Audo, stepdaughter Bonnie (Daniel) Winchester, stepdaughter-in-law, JoAnn Naumann and step-grandsons, Gavin, Emmett, Abel and Gavinn.

Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Laird, brother, Robert Laird and stepson, Gregory Naumann.

Joseph was a man of strong faith, attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, NY since the 1970s. Over the years he served the church in many capacities. He was an usher, helped with maintenance, and helped run the church flea markets, to name a few. One of his most cherished roles was that of youth group leader where he got his beloved nickname of “Uncle Joe”.

Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a Lieutenant in the Fire Department of New York for over 34 years.

Joseph was a self proclaimed “jack of all trades and master of none”. He taught himself such skills as carpentry, plumbing, woodworking, stained glass and many more. He used these skills to help anyone who needed a hand. He often gave handmade gifts of whatever craft he was learning at the time.

Joseph loved history and had a passion for travel. He loved to read and watch old movies. He loved spending time with family and friends and had an amazing sense of humor. He was a life long volunteer and always willing to help those in need.

We ask that you continue his legacy by volunteering at the charity of your choice and as Joe always included in his prayers, “please pray for those who have no one to pray for them”.
