Terrance Martin "Terry" Tornatore Obituary

Terrance Martin ”Terry” Tornatore, 71, a 43 year resident of Wappingers Falls, passed away suddenly on September 7, 2025 surrounded by his family and friends.

Terry was born in Oneida, NY, to Robert and Joan (West) Tornatore on August 7, 1954. The oldest of eight siblings, he was the one most of his siblings looked up to as a role-model. He graduated high school in 1972, with an interest in mathematics and engineering, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree at SUNY Fredonia four years later, in 1976. Wanting to further his education and leave an impact in his work, he pursued a dual Masters in Mathematics and Operations Research at Penn State University. He met the love of his life, Susan Caverly, in the last year of his studies, and the two began dating shortly after. They went on to get married on August 6, 1983, and remained together for 42 years.

His accomplishments were many and varied. Hired by IBM in East Fishkill in 1981, Terry worked with a team to create a US patent for silicon wafer technology advancements, and he served the company tirelessly for 22 years. When he was forced onto disability, he chose to pursue knowledge through local audited college courses on subjects such as poli-sci, religion, and history. When he could no longer take classes, he chose to invest himself into the Cursillo movement and showed leadership in his actions and his words towards others.

While not an extroverted soul, Terry had a great love for music, sports, friends, and his family. Above all, his faith is what defined him as a man, a husband, and a father to those he knew. Through his kindness, his actions, and his incredibly dry sense of humor, he touched many hearts and left a mark on all the people that he called his friends.

Terry is survived by his wife, Susan Tornatore; his two children, Carolyn and Kenneth Tornatore (Kathleen Keogh); his brother-in-law Jim Caverly of Ranchero Mirage, CA; his mother, Joan Tornatore of Oneida, NY; and his siblings, Tim Tornatore of Clifton Forge, VA, Julie (Tornatore) Kelly of Monks Corners, SC, Matt Tornatore (Brenda) of Oneida, NY, Richard Tornatore of Oneida, NY, Valerie (Tornatore) Salerno (Tony) of Dryden, NY, and Patti (Tornatore) Bennett (Dave) of Oneida, NY. He also has many nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Louise Tornatore; his father, Robert Tornatore and his brother, Bill Tornatore.

Terry’s wake will be held at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 2 to 6 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 15 at St. Columba Church 835 Route 82 in Hopewell Junction at 10 AM, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NY Cursillo Movement English, c/o Mr. Tom Castaldo, 199 Rolling Hills Green, Staten Island, NY 10312.
