Josephine M. "Joanie" Zizolfo Obituary

Josephine (Joanie) Zizolfo, 83, continued her journey with God on September 9th, 2025 surrounded by family. She is reunited in heaven with her husband Anthony Zizolfo, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, four children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Born February 27th, 1942, in “The Bronx”, NY, Joanie was raised by her “Mama”, Maria Anna Castellano. Joanie learned how to love without limits from her “Mama’s” example. With that endless capacity of love and affection, Joanie married Anthony on September 8th, 1962. Joanie lived her life briefly as a teacher’s aide & a home health aide, but her most influential roles in life were that of a wife and mother. She embodied the phrase “one life, one love” with her devotion to her husband. Joanie’s unconditional love for her four children (and their spouses), could not be contained. Joanie embraced many family friends throughout her life and viewed many of them as her own. Known as “Mama Z.”, Joanie’s legacy lives in the hearts of all who knew her and experienced her love.

Joanie enjoyed life’s simplicities and indulgences. She enjoyed sailing on Lake Mahopac, but also enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the birds. She enjoyed going to concerts, but she also enjoyed singing along to her favorite songs in the house. She enjoyed going out to eat at fancy restaurants, but also enjoyed eating popcorn while watching a horror movie on her recliner chair. She enjoyed going on trips and visiting people, but also took pleasure in beating an opponent in a game of gin rummy. But most of all, Joanie enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. Whether it was sharing a meal or interacting at a party, Joanie would always be smiling, laughing, conversing, and hugging… all while savoring a glass of Pinot Grigio, a fine Scotch or Tequilla, or even a simple cup of coffee.

Joanie’s faith in God was strong. She prayed nightly and collected Angel statues, displayed all around her bedroom. She never forgot the importance of God’s love and protection. Joanie now rests in heaven as an angel for all who knew her.

Joanie is survived by her children Josephine (Carlos), Anthony (Denise), Robert, and Mark (Rob); grandchildren Mark, Matthew (Brandi), Anne (Erick), Ashleigh, Corina, Melina, Sofia, Simon, and Juliana; great grandchildren Blaine & Charlie; and brother Stephen (Lina). She was predeceased by her husband Anthony and sister AnnaMarie.
