Albert C. Birnstill, Sr. Obituary

Albert C. Birnstill, Sr. of Wappingers Falls entered into rest on September 16, 2025. He was 88.


Son of the late Albert and Mary (Sutkitis) Birnstill, he was born on August 23, 1937 in Brooklyn. He married Marie Davenport on September 5, 1959 in Huntington, New York. Mrs. Birnstill preceded him in death, passing on August 7, 2023.


Albert served his country in the United States Army from 1959-1961 and was honorably discharged. He went on to enjoy a career as an engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie, until his retirement. He was also a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. In his spare time, he volunteered for Hospice and at Castle Point for many years. Albert was also the past president of the National Handball Association, a game that he loved and played for much of his life.


Survivors include his children, Cheryl Palazzolo and her husband, Mark of Poughkeepsie, Albert Birnstill, Jr. and his partner, Edwina Cruz of Cold Spring and Douglas Birnstill and his wife, Lisa of Hopewell Junction; his twin sister, Dorothy Wedley; grandchildren, Janine Mitchell and her husband, Will, Stephanie Palazzolo, Mark Palazzolo and his wife, Jillian, Abigail Birnstill and partner, Jason, and Cameron Bilyeu and his partner, Olivia; as well as his great-grandchildren, Cameron, Silas, Payton, Hayes and Jett.


In addition to his beloved, Marie, he was predeceased by his brother, William Zizus.
