Louis C. Clausen Obituary

Louis Clausen of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at home. He was 94.


Son of the late Knud and Marie (Hansen) Clausen, he was born on May 10, 1931 in New Paltz. He was predeceased by his parents and his step-mother, Elisa. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ehard on June 27, 1957. Mrs. Clausen preceded him in death, passing on October 10, 2023.


Lou graduated from Wappingers Central School District, Class of ’49. He later graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He continued on with his education, receiving his teaching degree. He started his teaching career at George Junior Republic High School in Freeville, NY. He was drafted soon after into the United States Army in 1954. He was sent to Germany where he served his country until 1956.


Upon being honorably discharged, Lou returned home to enjoy a 32 year teaching career at Roy C. Ketcham High School as a biology teacher. Once retired, he started a lawn business, “Lou’s Lawn Care”, which he owned and operated for many years. Lou served his town as a Town of Wappinger councilman for many years.


In his spare time, Lou was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the local Elks Club. He coached Town of Wappinger recreational soccer, where his team was not only undefeated, but they were never scored upon. He also coached girls volleyball and basketball.


Survivors include his children, Amy Greiner (Harold) and Aaron Clausen (Deb); grandchildren, Kayla Bedell, Heather O’Callahan, Erin Rose Clausen, Kaitlyn Furrer and Megan Greiner; and great-grandchildren, Angel, Jayson, Louis, Emily, Lillyann, Danny and Baileyrose.


In addition to his wife, Barbara, he was predeceased by his sons, Eric and David, and his grandson, Jaime.


Family will receive their friends on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street in Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at the end of visitation at 4:30 p.m.
