Robert Steven Dohrenwend, age 65, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by his family. Rob’s departure took place at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, in New York City, after years of health challenges related to heart disease. 

Son of the late John and Phyllis London Dohrenwend, Rob was born February 27, 1960, in Astoria, Queens, NY.  On September 11, 1982, he married Heidi Hamilton at her parents' home in Wappingers Falls. They eventually made this their own home where they raised their family and where Heidi currently resides.

Rob worked as an industrial mechanic prior to his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and was a longtime volunteer at Stony Kill Farm Environmental Education Center. He treasured time vacationing at Long Beach Island in NJ, with friends and family. He was known to be able to fix just about anything, even if it was “MacGyvered”. Above all, Rob loved his family deeply, especially his role as a grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Heidi, he is survived by his children, Nicole Morris and her husband, Chris and Jamie Dohrenwend and his wife, Christina; his grandchildren, Connor, Madeline, Penelopy, and Sophia; his brothers, Adam (Karen), David (Kelly) and Harry Dohrenwend; his dear Aunt and Uncle Kevin and Barbara; his sisters-in-law, Rachel and Susan; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and two special great-nieces, Ali and Bria. Rob will also be missed by many close friends who were his constant supporters during the rough spots. 

Family and friends will gather to celebrate and remember Robert on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls. 

Our family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital Irving for their constant and magnificent care. The level of commitment and comfort that was extended to Rob and his family was nothing short of amazing. From his first visit in 2020, receiving an LVAD, to his final breath, the CT-ICU, 7th floor step down unit and everyone in between, made us feel like Rob was the most important patient in their care.
