Gerald M. Tierney Obituary

Gerald Matthew Tierney, age 90, of Wappingers Falls, New York passed away on January 5, 2026 surrounded by family and love.


Gerald is survived by his five daughters, PeggyAnn (Monte), Sheila (Kevin), Geraldine (Freddie), Mary (Eddie) and Karen, his eleven grandchildren (Mairead and Matthew Matusiak, Brenna and Annie Sherlock, Kayla, Gerald, and Olivia Hamilton, Thomas and Danny Walsh, Katie Mae and Jack Burke, his brother Gus Tierney of County Cavan, Ireland and many nieces and nephews in America, Ireland, England and Australia. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Tierney and great grandson Theodore Hamilton Sirois. 


Gerald Matthew Tierney was born on September 20, 1935, in Greaghagibey, County Cavan, Ireland, to Lawrence and Anne. He was the seventh child born to the Tierney family, with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his brother, Gus Tierney, who currently resides in County Cavan, Ireland.


Gerry attended the Irish National School in Cavan until he emigrated to England to attend carpentry school.  He became a Master Carpentar and was well known for his wood finishing skills.  As a young man in Ireland, he frequented town dances where he met the love of his life, our mother, Ann Reilly. They got married in Maudabawn Chapel in County Cavan, Ireland on April 2, 1964. Their wedding celebration continued with a lovely reception at the White Horse Hotel, followed by a honeymoon in the Wicklow Mountains.


Gerry and Ann made their home in Woodside, Queens, New York, where they raised their family. During the week, Gerry worked as a driver for the Queens Transit Bus Company until his retirement in 1996. As a gifted and resourceful handyman, he worked side projects flipping houses and acting as the handyman for friends and neighbors of 65th Place.


Together, Gerry and Ann had five daughters in the span of ten years. Later in life, they sold their home in Woodside and enjoyed retirement in Dutchess County, New York, where they spent many blessed years with their eleven grandchildren, Mairead (Freddy), Matthew (Emily), Brenna, Annie, Kayla (Josh), Gerry, Olivia (Tyler), Thomas, Danny, Katie, Jack.


The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the kindness, support, and sympathy shown during the celebration of Gerry’s life.
