Geraldine E. "Gerry" Schmidt Obituary

In Loving Memory of Geraldine “Gerry” Schmidt (née Reynolds)

July 2, 1960 – January 20, 2026

With hearts heavy yet grateful, we share the passing of Geraldine “Gerry” Schmidt, age 65, who left this world on January 20, 2026, in Hyde Park, New York, after meeting her illness with the same grace, courage, and quiet strength that defined her life. Born on July 2, 1960, in Dublin, Gerry grew up in the close-knit community of Sallynoggin, Dún Laoghaire, where the rhythm of Irish streets and the warmth of family shaped her early years.

She attended St. Kevin’s Primary School and Holy Child Community College, places where her gentle spirit, quick wit, and deep kindness first began to shine. In March 1987, Gerry crossed the ocean and began a new chapter in the United States, carrying with her the lilting humor, resilience, and brighthearted love of home that would continue to illuminate the path she walked.

Gerry was a woman whose kindness softened the sharp edges of the world. Her smile could lift a weary day; her presence made any room feel lighter. She had a gift for seeing the good in others and reflecting it back to them, as though she held a small lantern of warmth that she continually passed from hand to hand.

She delighted in life’s simplest offerings—especially her morning cup of coffee, a quiet ritual she approached with gratitude and calm. It was in these small moments that her gentle wisdom lived: the belief that love is found in presence, joy in the everyday, and strength in tenderness.

Gerry poured her heart into her family, offering them a love that was steady, generous, and unconditional. She is held in cherished memory by her devoted husband, Ronald Schmidt; her beloved daughters, Anna and Donna; and her treasured grandchildren, Jaz, Tadhg, and Edelina, who carry her light forward. As well as her extended family

She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Tina, Jess, Robert, Rhoda, and Laura, with whom she shared a lifetime of laughter, stories, and deep familial bonds. She joins in eternal peace her parents, Robert and Laura Reynolds, and her brother Tony, who passed in 2009.

Even in her illness, Gerry met each day with quiet bravery. She never complained, choosing instead to lift others with a smile that spoke of hope. Her courage became a beacon—not loud or dramatic, but steady, like a candle that refuses to be extinguished.

The family offers heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice team, whose tender care carried Gerry through her final days with dignity and peace.

May the memory of Geraldine “Gerry” Schmidt be a blessing, a comfort, and a gentle reminder to choose kindness, embrace joy, and love with the fullness she so beautifully embodied.
