David P. DeWoody Obituary

David DeWoody, age 90, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, transitioned to his eternal reward at home on Friday, January 23, 2026 surrounded by love from his family and caregivers.

Born on June 27, 1935 in the Township of Irwin, Pennsylvania to his parents, Paul and Hannah (Cross) DeWoody; David grew up enjoying family life while learning to lend his assistance to neighboring farms during the summer, bringing in the hay while riding on the back of a tractor driven hay wagon.

A graduate of Franklin Senior High School, Dave briefly worked at the Joy Manufacturing Company as a draftsman before enlisting in the Air Force. He served for four years and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant after receiving their Medal of Good Conduct.

David married Carole End on July 11, 1958, and they headed to Tillamook, Oregon for six months until Dave received his discharge from the service. They enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage together.

David attended Indiana Technical College and was hired by IBM in 1962. Over the years he became involved in the Boy Scout Program and enjoyed many hikes along the Appalachian Trail with his Troop. He developed a love of bowling and golfing and in 1966 became involved in a new church in the area, Community Baptist Church, where he and Carole were charter members.

He later became a member of the New Hackensack Reformed Church where he enjoyed making new friends and singing in their vocal choir.

A devout family man, he was able, with assistance from family and friends, to build an addition to their four-room house. The large front porch, added in 1992, was a gathering place for friends and family and a wonderful place to entertain.

After his retirement from IBM, he worked various jobs including Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home for which he was very qualified, as Dave had a compassionate nature which made him a natural for the position.

David was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Edith McBryar and Marilyn Moffitt. His survivors include his wife, Carole; daughter Brenda Lee (HoMing); son, John, (Patty Speed); grandchildren, Joshua DeWoody, Oliver Lee, Raven Lee; and his brother, Robert DeWoody of Franklin, Pennsylvania.

A special thanks to Hospice of the Hudson Valley, for making his last days comfortable and for all the assistance they provided to the family.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place with no services. Interment will take place at a later date.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to New Hackensack Reformed Church, 1580 NY 376, Wappingers Falls, New York 12590.

Arrangements are under the direction of Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
