Glenn W. Barnes Obituary

Glenn Barnes passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, February 15, 2026. He was 88. He was born in New Rochelle, NY to Sylvester Barnes and Agnes Keller Barnes. On September 7, 1958, he married the love of his life, Joan.


Glenn worked for Eastchester Lincoln/Mercury for 25 years as the Shop Foreman and Automatic Transmission Repair Specialist. In 1961, he was activated by the Air Force and deployed to Germany for the Berlin Crisis. In 1981, Glenn returned to service at Stewart Air Force Base as the Head of Quality Assurance Fleet Inspection Dept., where he served for the next 18 years. During this time the base received the only Outstanding Performance Certificate. After retirement from Stewart, he became a Wappingers Central School District bus driver, which he did for the next 15 years.


Glenn’s passion was playing golf, which he enjoyed for over 70 years. On August 19, 2006 at Vassar Golf Course, he got a “hole in one”, which he was so proud of.


Survivors include his wife, Joan of Wappingers Falls; his children: son, Bill Barnes and his wife, Corinne of Holly Springs, NC, daughter, Susan Loring of Palm Bay, FL and son, Brian Barnes of Wappingers Falls; and his grandchildren, Alicia Chitanand, her husband, Jett and their daughters, Myla and Natalie of NC, John Barnes and his wife, Jennifer of NC, and Laura Fang, her husband, Philip and their son, Andrew of NC.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley LaRue in 2005.


The family is forever grateful to the Hudson Valley Hospice for the compassionate care that he was given.  


Family will receive their friends on Friday, February 20, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A time of remembrance will be held at 12 noon.


A funeral service with entombment will immediately follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Route 9 in Poughkeepsie.
