Carlos Ruben Morales entered into rest on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at the NYS Veterans Home in Montrose. He was 79.

Son of the late Maria Rosa and Ruben Morales-Santoni, he was born on January 27, 1947 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

Carlos served his country in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1972. He went on to work for many years as a security guard for various hospitals throughout New York City. He was also an avid cook. Carlos dreamed of becoming a chef and even got to enjoy some classes at the Culinary Institute of America before falling ill. In his spare time, he loved to fish.

Survivors include his sister, Maria M. De La Cruz and her husband, Peter, of Hopewell Junction, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Elodys Morales.

Family will receive their friends on Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, N.Y. 12590. A funeral service with military honors will immediately follow visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Carlos’ name to any veteran’s cause dear to you.
