Louis DeFelice Obituary
Louis DeFelice, age 93, passed away April 23, 2026 at Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie, where he was a resident for the past three years. Prior to that, Louis lived in the Town of Wappinger for 51 years.
Louis was born March 31, 1933, the son of the late Louis and Lillian DeFelice. He married the former Eileen Fleming at the Church of the Incarnation in Manhattan on November 19, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2020.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Louis worked for IBM for over 30 years in a variety of posts in hardware and software specialties, rising from field engineer to manager and staff positions. After retirement, he devoted himself to charity and community pursuits. He filled a large number of posts for the Knights of Columbus, Council 1646, including Grand Knight. He was a Fourth Degree Knight and head of the Color Guard.
Louis was active in the Wappinger senior citizens club, organizing their trips for many years. He was also a member of the photo club, contributing many works. He enjoyed participating in a local school program where senior volunteers read storybooks to elementary children. He was an avid amateur winemaker and devoted grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children, James and Debra DeFelice of Warwick, Thomas and Michelle DeFelice of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Luanne and Francis X. Sheehan, Jr. of Livingston, New Jersey, Pastor Bob and Lisa Letterii DeFelice of New Paltz, Donald and Theresea DeFelice of Poughkeepsie, and Lisa and Michael Macklin of Poughkeepsie; his brother, Constantini DeFelice known as “Uncle Sonny” and his wife, Marie of Pearl River; his sister-in-law, Teresa "Vera" Gatins of Poughquag; his grandchildren, Robert and Vita DeFelice of Shelton, CT, Joseph DeFelice of Gaylord, MI, Matthew DeFelice of Sheboygan, WI, Frank and Nick Sheehan of Livingston, NJ, Domiana DeFelice Cotter and Joseph Cotter of Gardiner, Dante and Alyssa Mazzeo DeFelice of Highland, Dakota DeFelice and fiancé, Jeremy Barbara of Hoboken, NJ, Delyla DeFelice of Pleasant Valley, Brianna, Marissa and Anthony DeFelice all of Poughkeepsie, and Adam and Mikayla Macklin both of Poughkeepsie; his great-grandchildren, Antonino, Federico, Alessandra, Rose Elizabeth, Andrew Joseph, Ellis Lou, and Robin Mae; as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 30 at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
