William R. Breining, Jr. Obituary

William Reinhold Breining, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on January 1, 1947 to parents William R. Sr and Jean C. Breining in Peekskill,NY , Bill lived a life defined by courage, dedication, and a deep love for family, the outdoors, and his country.

Bill answered the call of duty by serving as a United States Army Paratrooper during the Vietnam War, demonstrating extraordinary valor and sacrifice in defense of his nation. His courage under fire earned him the Purple Heart — a testament to the price he willingly paid in service to his country. He carried that service with quiet pride throughout his life, and those who knew him understood that his strength of character was forged, in no small part, on the battlefields of Vietnam.

Returning home, Bill built a career spanning many years with the New York Telephone Company, now known as Verizon, where he earned the respect of colleagues and made many friends that he kept in touch with up until his death.

When he wasn't working, Bill could most often be found outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he cherished every moment spent in nature with his sons and friends.  Many knew him as Bucky or “Buckshot” as he was nicknamed for his passion for bow and arrow deer hunting.

Above all, Bill was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Judith A. Breining. He leaves behind two sons: Christopher Breining and his wife Erica, and William Breining III and his wife Celena. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Isabella, Ava, and Justin, who brought immeasurable joy to his later years. He is also survived by his sisters, Gail Barausky and Mary Breining, who will carry his memory in their hearts. In addition to those who mourn his passing, Bill is reunited in heaven with his beloved son, Michael Breining, who preceded him in death.

Bill Breining was a man of few words but immeasurable depth and a great sense of humor — a veteran who served with honor, a professional who worked with pride, and a family man who loved without reservation. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
