Eugene L. Sardo was escorted by his guardian angel to the gates of Heaven on Friday, August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his wife, Carol.

Son of the late August and Julia (Hamerick) Sardo, he was born on March 4, 1939 in Brooklyn. He was a 50 year resident of Dutchess County. On October 23, 1970, he married the love of his life, Carol Colombo in Newburgh. Mrs. Sardo survives at home in Poughkeepsie.

Eugene served his country in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1963. He enjoyed a long career as a collector and patient representative, employed by TEG Credit Union, West Point Credit Union, Vassar Brothers Hospital and finishing his career with Health Quest, retiring in 2016.

Eugene was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Wappingers Falls. There, he was a member of their choir, a Eucharistic minister and a lector. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and tennis. He also had a love of New York sports teams, especially the Yankees and the Giants.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol of Poughkeepsie; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Martin (Philip) of Mechanicsville, VA, Mary Martin (Richard) of Milton and Magdalen Clayton (Dave) of New Paltz; brothers-in-law, Joseph Colombo of Albany and Thomas Bonadio of Madison, WV; and many loving godchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alphonse and John Sardo, and his sister, Virginia Moore.

Family will receive their friends on Thursday, September 3, 2026 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, N.Y. 12590.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh.
