Obituary of John J. Kane

John J. Kane John J. Kane passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Elant at Fishkill after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 85. John was born November 22, 1922 in the Bronx to the late John and Mary Logan Kane. He later relocated to Derry and Raymond, New Hampshire. He moved to Wappingers Falls in 2000. He served during World War II as a Bombardier in the thirteenth Air Force division in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant on September 12, 1946. He saw action in New Guinea, the Philippines, Luzon and Borneo earning the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with five bronze service stars, and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze service star. John is survived by his sister, Theresa Kane of New York City and his brother, Raymond Kane of Wappingers Falls. He is also survived by his nephew, Kevin Kane and his wife, Adrienne of Poughkeepsie; nieces, Elizabeth Kane-Leahy and her husband, Dennis of Maybrook, Mary Kane-Hooker and her husband, Mel of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Margaret Kane of Newburgh; and great-nephews, Kristopher, Sean and Dylan and great-niece, Alyssa. He was predeceased by two sister, Margaret and Catherine. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 15 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Inurnment will be in the family plot in Gate of Heaven Cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to Elant at Fishkill, 22 Robert Kasin Way, Beacon, NY 12508.
