Obituary of E. Daniel Pericles

E. Daniel Pericles E. Daniel Pericles, 88, of Wappingers Falls, died peacefully and unexpectedly at his home. He went to be with Our Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He was born December 5, 1920 in New York City to the late Louis and Mary Pericles. He married his cherished Josephine Angelo on April 27, 1947. He was a loving and dear husband to Jo. Mrs. Pericles survives at home in Wappingers Falls. He was predeceased by his devoted and loving daughter, Esther. Dan proudly volunteered to serve his country during World War II. He served in the United Stated Army, 10th Mountain Division. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after receiving numerous medals including the Purple Heart. Dan was a past commander of DAV, Post 144, member of the VFW, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the NRA. Dan also volunteered for over twenty years at Castle Point VAMC. He was a past worthy patron of the Eastern Star and also a member of the Masons. He was a parishioner of Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, Poughkeepsie and St. Nicholas Church, Newburgh. Prior to his retirement, Dan was employed as a purchasing agent for IBM, Fairchild and Green Fan. In addition to his wife of nearly sixty-two years, he leaves behind a nephew, Colonel Dr. Robert Dean; nieces, Eva Folkert and her husband, Calvin, Judy Sloan, Patricia and Denise; a god daughter, Stephanie Sidote and her husband, Mark and many cherished friends. Family will receive their friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, April 22 at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill. Memorial donations may be made to either Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or St. Nicholas Church, 19 Fullerton Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.
