Obituary of Thomas D. O'Keefe

Thomas D. O'Keefe, Jr. Thomas D. O'Keefe, Jr. of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Monday, May 18, 2009 at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family. He was 79. Son of the late Thomas D. O'Keefe, Sr. and Mary Bader O'Keefe, he was born on August 10, 1929 in Orange, New Jersey. He married Kathleen A. Ginther on December 21, 1976 in Brooklyn; Mrs. O'Keefe preceded him in death, passing on July 20, 2005. Mr. O'Keefe served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged, he spent his years raising his family and pursuing a career as an electrician. Most recently, he was Master Electrician for the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City, until his retirement. In his spare time, he belonged to such clubs as the American Legion and the Commercial Club in Queens Village. Most of all, he loved his time spent with his family. Thomas was also a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Survivors include his daughters, Maureen DeMarco and her husband, Victor, Elaine Hargous and her husband, Gregory, Ellen Wawryk and her husband, Mike, and Lynn Moulton and her husband, Ron; brother, John O'Keefe and his wife, Gayle; sisters, Marie Steigerwald and Elizabeth Regan; grandchildren, Victor and Rachel DeMarco, Matthew, Thaddeus, Patrick and Michaela Wawryk, and Brandon and Jessica Moulton; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Daisy. In addition to his wife, Kathleen, Thomas was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Taylor and Loretta Marino. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Thomas' name to Hospice of Dutchess County, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
