Obituary of George S. Fairhurst

George S. Fairhurst George S. Fairhurst of Wappingers Falls entered into rest Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 51. Son of the late George and Ann Kosar Fairhurst, he was born on July 30, 1958 in Yonkers. He married the love of his life, Julie A. Velardo on April 7, 1984 in Ossining; Mrs. Fairhurst survives at home in Wappingers Falls. George graduated from Brewster High School. He worked for A&P for 33 years, most recently as a store manager in Mount Kisco. George was a big sports fan; he played softball in Somers for many years, was a coach for Wappingers Little League for a season and was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. He also enjoyed golf. George had a strong love of animals, especially his dogs. Most of all, he loved his family. In addition to his wife, Julie, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey S. Fairhurst and his companion, Amanda of Poughkeepsie; daughters, Valerie M. Fairhurst and her fianc�, Ian of Wappingers Falls, and Kayla A. Fairhurst of Wappingers Falls; sisters, Gail Bennett and her companion, David of Wappingers Falls, Patricia Fairhurst and her companion, Warren of Saugerties, and Christine Scher and her husband, Charles of Jackson, NJ; one grandson, Jaiden; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and many great friends who loved him dearly. Mr. Fairhurst was predeceased by his sister, Lynn Helfrich. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 30th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Mother of the Church, Jackson Street in Fishkill. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
