Obituary of Mary Jane McKenna

Mary Jane McKenna Mary Jane McKenna, a resident of the Village of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. She was 79. Daughter of the late James and Susan Sedore McKenna, she was born August 5, 1930 in Poughkeepsie. She was a 1948 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. She worked as a commercial artist before going to work as a telephone operator. She was a telephone operator for more than twenty-five years until her retirement. Mary Jane was a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. She was active with the Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters in the area. She was involved in the choir at St. Mary's Church, Poughkeepsie and later in Wappingers Falls. Mary Jane was also a volunteer at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and involved with the First Saturday Handicap Club in Poughkeepsie. She is survived by her sisters, Barbara Hughes of Wappingers Falls and Elizabeth Aiello of Weston, Florida as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, James and Joseph McKenna and her sister, Evelyn Vanzant. Family will receive friends on Sunday, April 25, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Monday, April 26 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary Jane's name may be made to First Saturday Handicap Club, 14 Baine Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
