Obituary of Madgalene Rinak Pokrey

Magdalene "Maggie" Rinak Pokrey Magdalene Pokrey, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie. Maggie had a great love for dancing and music, especially rock and roll. She attended and enjoyed those activities at the center. Fashion was another love of hers. But her greatest love was her family. She was a loving, caring and generous wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed. Maggie was born on April 6, 1927 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to Anna Bundro (Bondra) and Michael H. Rinak (Hrinak). Her sisters, Dorothea "Dottie" and Eleanor also predeceased her. She grew up in Alpha and Phillipsburg, New Jersey where she attended schools. On April 27, 1955, she married Alexander Pokrey; whom she met while working at the Easton Children's Home. He preceded her in death, August 10, 1998. Prior to raising her family, she worked at New York Transformer in Alpha, New Jersey and Easton Children's Home and Easton Hospital in Easton, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her daughter, Lorene Prezkuta and her husband, Alan of Poughkeepsie; granddaughter, Katherine Prezkuta of Poughkeepsie; her cousins, Donald Gentzle and wife, Lena of Easton, PA, Marge Thomas and husband, Doyle of Pen Argyl, PA, John Harobin and wife, Susan of Spring, Texas, Irene Toback of Cressona, PA; her sister-in-law, Rose Pokrey Howard of Worcester, MA and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive their friends from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Straub, Catalano and Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 17 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. Our family wishes to thank the staff on the 4th floor at River Valley Care Center for all their care and compassion at this time and for the special care given to mom over the last years.
