Obituary of James Edward Vredenburgh

James Edward "Ed" Vredenburgh James Edward "Ed" Vredenburgh of the Town of Wappinger entered into rest Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was 87. Son of the late James C. and Charlotte Scott Vredenburgh, he was born on August 29, 1918 in Beacon. He married the love of his life, Carmela Sciacca on April 17, 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church in Poughkeepsie; they remained happily married for over 57 years. Ed served his country in the United States Army during World War II, receiving many commendations such as the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and World War II Medal, among others. He then went on to work for N&S Supply in Fishkill for many years until his retirement. He was not only known for his skills in plumbing, but also for his many skills as an electrician, carpenter and furniture maker. Besides his loving wife Carmela, he is survived by his son, James E. Vredenburgh, Jr. and his wife, Caren, of St. Louis, Missouri; his daughter, Jean Ann Silbereisen and her husband, Roy, of Eatonton, Georgia; grandchildren, Michael and Stephen Vredenburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his brother, George C. Vredenburgh and his sisters, Alma Bushnell, Anna VanVlack and Edith VanTassell; Family will receive their friends on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 from 4-8 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 15 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Wappingers Falls on South Avenue. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, Poughkeepsie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed's name to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 2568 South Avenue, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 or a charity of one's choice.
