Obituary of Robert S. Scott

Robert S. Scott, 95, a longtime resident of Wappingers Falls passed away on September 10, 2011. He was born on April 28, 1916 in North Tonawanda, New York. On November 11, 1951 Robert married his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Marie Rettagliata Scott. Mrs. Scott survives at home. Robert was a Safety Engineer at IBM in Poughkeepsie until his retirement on March 1, 1983. Robert earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in 1937 and later completed his Masters Degree with Syracuse University. He served in the US Army as an Ordnance Supply Officer in the Asia Pacific region from 1942 to 1946. He was a decorated World War II veteran and was awarded the Army Commendation Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Robert studied Japanese culture at Yale University and was a third degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was a member of the World Tae Kwon Do Association and taught karate classes to adults and children for many years at the IBM Country Club and Recreation Facility. In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his three loving sons, William Scott of Gardiner, NY, Peter Scott and his wife, Anne of Romulus, NY and Michael Scott and his wife, Jackie of Bridgewater, NJ; his adoring grandchildren, Nate and Nelson Scott of Romulus, NY and Stephen Scott of Bridgewater, NJ; his sister, Thelma Schlaffino; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls. Entombment will follow in the Fishkill Rural Community Mausoleum, Route 9, Fishkill.
