Obituary of Domenick N. Giamportone
Domenick N. Giamportone, Jr. a resident of Pleasant Valley entered into rest Sunday, November 20, 2011 at River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 81.
Son of the late Domenick and Anna Olivero Giamportone, he was born February 1, 1930 in Newark, New Jersey. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with two tours during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in August of 1953. He married the former Angelina Valentino on October 9, 1955 at St. Mary's Church, Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Giamportone preceded him in death on July 25, 1980.
Domenick worked as a Journeyman and Printer at Western Publishing in Poughkeepsie for many years. He retired as a custodian for Arlington High School. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. He was also a member of the VFW in Wappingers Falls where he was past commander as well as the Elks in Wappingers Falls.
He is survived by his companion of many years, Irene Woodbrey; his children, Domenick R. Giamportone and his wife, Nancy of Wappingers Falls, his daughter Christine Roberts of Kingston; his step-children, Carole DaPonte and her husband, Joe of Poughkeepsie, Jean Woodbrey and her husband, Warren of New York City and Wayne Woodbrey of Poughkeepsie; his sister Grace Coratti and her husband, John of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Kyle, Sierra, Nicholas, Kayla, Anna, Colin, Alex and Hana as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Philip and Jack and his sisters, Florence Calderone, Jean Passante and Pauline Paterno.
Family will receive friends on Monday, November 28, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29 at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls.
