Obituary of John Guido

John Guido, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Friday, March 14, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 87. Son of the late Ferdinand and Rose Carpino Guido, he was born January 23, 1927 in Kingston and was educated in Poughkeepsie schools. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Seaman First Class. He married the love of his life, the former Mary Todaro on June 22, 1947 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Guido preceded him in death on March 16, 2003. Prior to his retirement in 1996, John owned PPG Paint and Glass. He was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls and also a member of the Knights of Columbus and Elks Club in Wappingers Falls. He loved playing cards and in his younger years, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed bowling. Together with his wife, he enjoyed dancing. Most importantly, he treasured time spent with his family. John is survived by his daughters, Darcel Guido of Wappingers Falls, Debra Takacs and her husband, Michael of Staatsburg and Linda Hadden and her husband, Jeffrey of Wappingers Falls; his four grandchildren, Jaison, Lorell, Sarah and Samuel; his great-grandchildren, Avery, Kylee, Brody and Hudson; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son, John F. Guido on June 10, 2006 and his brothers, Frank, Leonard and Richard Guido. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
