Obituary of Arthur G. Ryan

Arthur G. Ryan, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Monday, December 26, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 79. Son of the late Arthur C. and Evelyn M. Seely Ryan, he was born August 9, 1932 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a 1950 graduate of Draper High School in Rotterdam, New York. In 1951, he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. Art was honorably discharged in 1955. On August 31, 1952 at Carman Methodist Church in Rotterdam, he married the former Joan E. White. Mrs. Ryan preceded him in death on February 3, 2007. Art had worked as a Lineman and then a Manager for NYNEX until his retirement. He was a member of the Fishkill and Poughkeepsie Senior Softball Leagues as well as the Dutchess County Pioneers Bowling League. He was happiest when surrounded by his family, children, and beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed playing softball, hunting and fishing and his camp in the Adirondacks.. He was a proud hockey grandfather and was affectionately known as "Poppy." He was loved by all and will remain in our hearts always. He is survived by his children, Eileen B. Connolly and her husband, Thomas of Wappingers Falls, Susan E. Ryan at home in Wappingers Falls and Arthur L. Ryan and his wife, Carolyn of Red Hook; his three grandchildren, Ryan Connolly and Arthur and Natalie Ryan; his brother, John K. Ryan and Donna Heeder of Jupiter, Florida; his brothers-in-law, George E. and Ralph H. White, both of Rotterdam; his sisters-in-law, Gerry White of Rotterdam and Bobbi and Barbara White, both of Scotia; as well as several nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends. In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Jack A. White; his sisters-in-law, Virginia C. Ryan and Elizabeth E. White; his niece, Colleen Ryan Simmons and nephew, Richard White. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 30 at the funeral home with his nephew, Patrick Ryan officiating. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Avenue, Poughkeepsie. Memorial donations may be made in Art's name to a charity of your choice.
