Obituary of Donald J. Geiger

Donald J. Geiger, an eight year local resident and former lifelong resident of Yonkers, entered into rest Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at River Valley Care Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 62. Son of the late Joseph and Catherine Wixon Geiger, he was born July 4, 1949 in Yonkers. Donald had worked as a butcher and later in the print shop at Yonkers General Hospital. Donny was an outstanding athlete at Yonkers High School and carried his love of sports into adulthood. He devoted many years to umpiring North Yonkers Little League and passing on his love of the game. He also umpired adult football and softball and became an ASA Softball umpire in Poughkeepsie. Donny always enjoyed a good card game with old friends or trying to beat his nephews at dominos. He was an avid sports fan especially for his New York Yankees and UFC. He also enjoyed fishing in the Adirondacks. His family, especially the great-nieces and great-nephews, were his greatest joy. They will miss "The Swiper" and "Taco Lover." He will be greatly missed but always remembered. He is survived by his sister, Diane Felipe and her husband, Joseph of Wappingers Falls; his brother, Dennis Geiger and his wife, Joan of Mahopac; his nieces and nephews, Joseph Felipe and his wife, Kelly, David Felipe and his wife, Kelly, Dennis Geiger, Brian Geiger and his wife, Susan and Jeffrey Geiger and his wife, Nancy; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Adam, Anthony, Joseph, Gianna, Dominic, Isabella, Catherine, Matthew, Leah and Gabriella. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelly Gilroy; his little angel in heaven. Family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 4 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street, Wappingers Falls.
