Obituary of Ann M. Terwilliger

Ann M. "Tunch" Terwilliger, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie. She was 94. Daughter of the late Stanley and Julia Jurys, she was born September 18, 1917 or there about. She supported the war effort by working at Schatz Federal Bearing for ten years. After the war, she married her sweetheart, Douglas W. Terwilliger. Mr. Terwilliger preceded her in death on June 19, 1984. She was a former member of the Oak Grove Grange. Tunch loved following her husband and son to various Firemen's Parades. She was a gardener and enjoyed sewing and knitting. She was a lifelong animal lover and an advocate for adopting cats and dogs. She is survived by her son, Douglas F. Terwilliger and his wife, Nancy of Wappingers Falls; her granddaughter, Audrey Terwilliger and several cherished nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Jurys, Catherine Just, Leona Shaughnessy, Louise Dougherty, Stella Sullivan and Mary Kondysar. Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 6 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Tunch's name to Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 or Town of Newburgh Animal Shelter, 645 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550.
