Obituary of Francesca L. Avellani

Francesca "Lucy" L. Avellani, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a resident of Wappingers Falls and formerly of the Bronx, entered into rest Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at home. She was 88. Daughter of the late Giovanni and Giulia Iarossi Salvatore, she was born October 25, 1926 in Tione degli Abruzzi, Italy. She married Americo Avellani on April 15, 1948; he preceded her in death on December 9, 2005. Lucy worked as a seamstress for many years in the Bronx. Lucy is survived by her daughters, Rosalia Gasperini of Wappingers Falls, and Julia Maldonado and her husband, Thomas of Rockland; her grandchildren, Anthony (Amy), Michael (Heather), Ralph (Erica) and Daniel (Emily); and her great grandchildren, Anthony, Anna, Christian, Allison and Alexander. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Tony Gasperini. Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 7th at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 754 East Gun Hill Road, Bronx, N.Y. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, 517 East 233rd Street, Bronx, N.Y.
