Obituary of Robert H. Massey

Robert H. Massey, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest peacefully in his sleep, at home on Monday, April 9, 2012. He was 75. Son of the late George Massey, Sr. and Esther Knowles Massey, he was born August 11, 1936 in Utica, New York. On June 1, 1957 he married the love of his life, the former Joyce Townsend at the Congregational Church in Paris Hill, New York. After fifty years of marriage, Mrs. Massey preceded her husband in death, passing on January 26, 2008. Bob was a graduate of Mohawk Valley Technical Institute. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Guam. He was honorably discharged in 1958. Bob went on to work for IBM in 1963. He retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1991. He volunteered with the AARP as a defensive driver training instructor. Bob was a member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge 275. He participated in the Holiday Handicap Bowling league for many years and was involved in the Jaycees. Bob also enjoyed playing golf. He always looked forward to his weekly lunches with his best friends, as well as his IBM retiree's lunches once a month. Bob is survived by his children, Dale R. Massey and his wife, Terri of Wappingers Falls, Cheryl A. Massey of Wappingers Falls, Diane M. Mucci and her husband, Alan of Poughkeepsie and Brian M. Massey and his wife, Lisa of Poughkeepsie; his sister, Patricia Davis and her husband, Raymond; his brothers, William Massey and his wife, Marian and Raymond Massey and his wife, AnnaMae; his five grandchildren, Megan Massey, Anthony and Matthew Mucci, and Sean and Kyle Massey; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, George Massey, Jr. Family will receive their friends on Thursday, April 12, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls. Memorial donations in Bob's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
