Obituary of Timothy W. Smith

Timothy W. Smith, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 86. Son of the late James and Emma Cox Smith, he was born November 16, 1926 in Peekskill. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the United States Navy for two years during World War II and went on to serve in the Merchant Marines for several years. He married the former Gwendolyn Whitford on November 28, 1957 in Middletown, New York. Mrs. Smith preceded him in death on August 17, 2010. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Smith worked as an equipment maintenance manager for IBM in East Fishkill for thirty years. Tim enjoyed golfing and after retirement, he went on to work at McCann Golf Course for twenty years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wappingers Falls. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family especially watching his grandsons sports teams; never missing a game. Survivors include his daughters, Sharon Smith of Poughkeepsie and Lynn McKenna and her husband, Dennis of Poughkeepsie; his grandchildren, Mitchell, Timothy and Kevin McKenna; as well as one niece and one nephew. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, James Smith. Family will receive friends on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor at the convenience of the family.
