Obituary of Ethel M. Laub

Ethel May Laub of Poughkeepsie entered into rest Friday, April 12, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 99. Daughter of the late Alfred R. and Hermine Elizabeth Thatcher Loweth, she was born on May 18, 1913 in the Bronx. She married the love of her life, Robert Laub on November 30, 1941 in Rhinebeck; Mr. Laub preceded her in death, passing on November 13, 1971. Mrs. Laub grew up in Rhinebeck and later attended the Vassar School of Nursing. Throughout her nursing career, she was a Registered Nurse at Vassar Hospital, McClellan's Nursing Home and Morningside Manor Home. She was made a life member of the Vassar Brothers Hospital Alumnae Association. Over the years, Ethel enjoyed spending time with friends and playing cards. She belonged to the Young Old-timers group at Zion Episcopal Church in Wappingers Falls, where she was a member. In her spare time, she loved to knit and crochet. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Karen Laub of Wappingers Falls; grandchildren, Robert A. Laub of San Francisco, CA, and Kristen Laub of Montgomery; and her nephews, Donald Wheeler and Gerald Vossler. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was predeceased by her son, Steven R. Laub on August 5, 2007; her brothers, William Loweth, Jack Loweth and Richard Loweth; and her sisters, Alice Bates, Lucille Wheeler and Lillian Loweth. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 16 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday following visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the family plot at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Route 9D in Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Ethel's name to Zion Episcopal Church, 12 Satterlee Place, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Rachel and Janet who were Ethel's caretakers over the last several years. They would also like to thank the staff of Vassar Brothers Medical Center, South Circle 5 for their care and compassion over the last week.
