Obituary of Mae C. Connolly

Mae C. Connolly, a resident of Wingate at Ulster for the past three years and a former resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Wingate at Ulster in Highland. She was 96. Born Domenica C. D'Anneo, Mae was the oldest of four children born to Paul and Mary D'Anneo on March 5, 1917 in East New York. She would travel with her mother and father in a horse drawn soda water wagon which was the mode of travel of the day. She was predeceased by her younger sister, Frances Salvatore and brother, Gerolimo D'Anneo. She married Thomas F. Connolly on November 15, 1942; Mr. Connolly preceded her in death on July 8, 1975. Mae began her working career with Sperry Gyroscope during World War II. She retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1973 and spent her time traveling and enjoying her family. Mae was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, where she had been involved with the Altar Rosary Society and St. Mary's Mothers Guild when her children were in school. Her main interests were her love of music and cooking. Among her favorite musicians were Jerry Vale and Engelbert Humperdinck. Survivors include her children, Thomas and Cathleen Connolly of Lake Pleasant, New York, Dennis and Donna Connolly of Staatsburg, New York, Douglas and Rita Connolly of Norwich, New York and Pamela Heaphy of Poughkeepsie, New York; her nine grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Domonic D'Anneo of Grand Gorge, New York. Family will receive friends on Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Wappingers Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mae's name to the American Heart Association, 301 Manchester Road, Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, www.heart.org.
