Obituary of Donald J. Kennedy

Donald J. Kennedy, Sr. of Scottsdale, Arizona and formerly of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Friday, August 23, 2013. He was 71. Son of the late Donald J. and Alberta Osterhoudt Kennedy, he was born on August 8, 1942 in Poughkeepsie. Donald served his country in the United States Army as a sharpshooter, until he was honorably discharged in October of 1963. He went on to work as a programmer for IBM in East Fishkill until his retirement. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed baseball. When his children were small, he was a little league coach. He also had a fondness for firetrucks. Survivors include his sons, Robert Kennedy of Wappingers Falls, Donald J. Kennedy, Jr. of Newburgh and Michael Kennedy of Wappingers Falls; daughter, Jennifer Kennedy of Wappingers Falls; three brothers; one sister; grandchildren, Sgt. Robert Kennedy, Jr., USMC, Bryan Kennedy, Nicole Kennedy, Brandon Kennedy, Samantha Kennedy, Julia Kennedy, Nicholas Kennedy, Pvt. 1st Class Andrew Kennedy, USMC and Leigh-ann Kennedy; and three great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A memorial service will be held following visitation at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment with honors will take place on Friday, September 13 at 12:30 p.m. at the Gerald B.H.
