Obituary of Marcelle M. Gourion

Marcelle M. Gourion, a resident of Wappingers Falls, entered into in rest Friday, October 18, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 89. Daughter of the late Abraham and Donna Maman Nahon, she was born November 9, 1923 in Oran, Algeria. On January 8, 1944, she married Rene J. Gourion in Oran. Mr. Gourion preceded her in death on December 7, 2004. Marcelle was proud of her effort working as a switchboard operator and interpreter with the United States Army during World War II in Algeria. When she and her husband started their family, the family became her priority. As grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, she treasured her time spent with them. She was always willing to share advice or what she just read about preventative health care. Marcelle was also known as the family worrier, often thinking of others. Most importantly, her love will be truly missed by her all her family. She is survived by her children, Patty Lambert of Wappingers Falls, Marge Chianelli and her husband, Bobby of Poughkeepsie, Gail Galbraith and her husband, Jeff of Wanaque, New Jersey and Jeffrey Gourion of Wappingers Falls; her brother, Andre Nahon of Toulon, France; her thirteen grandchildren, Scott, Jason, Ashley, Ryan, Tori, Casey, Amanda, Robert, Jordan, Sean, Molly, Jacob and Jared; her nine great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Abby, Ella, Raegan, Max, Payton, Annabelle, Desmond and Ptolemy; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Jacques Nahon. Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. at at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marcelle's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
