Obituary of Harrison W. Freer

Harrison W. Freer Harrison W. Freer of the Town of Fishkill, formerly of Wappingers Falls, entered into rest Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 75. Son of the late Harrison E. and Sophia Borcher Freer, he was born on January 19, 1930 in Yonkers. He married the love of his life Margaret O'Brian on November 11, 1950 at St. Mary's in Poughkeepsie. Harrison served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. He also worked as a sheet metal worker for Local 38 in Brewster where he served for 50 years until his retirement in 1988. He belonged to many organizations such as Victor L. Bracone Post #5913 VFW, Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree, the American Legion of Wappingers Falls and a past member of the W.T. Garner Firehouse. He was also involved in the Village of Wappingers Falls politics and Zoning Board. Harrison enjoyed the years he coached Little League and all the traveling he got to do with his wife, especially their yearly stays in Ruskin, Florida during the winter season. Besides his loving wife, Peg at home, he is survived by his children, Rebecca Greene and her husband, Stephen of Poughkeepsie, Harrison C. Freer and his wife, Tricia of Springfield, Virginia, Marsha Bogart and her husband, Christopher of South Hampton, New Hampshire, Peter J. Freer and his wife, Lea of Concord, North Carolina, Lisa Browne and her husband, Christopher of Middletown, New Jersey, Claudia Wild of Victor, Tracey Thomas and her husband, Dean of Webster, Mary Freer of Wappingers Falls and Timothy Freer and his wife, Corinne of Charlotte, North Carolina; his sister, Marie Campion-Pratt of Ruskin, Florida; 25 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Family will receive their friends on Wednesday, January 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Straub Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, January 19 at 10 am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls. Interment will be held in the spring at the convenience the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harrison's name to New York Special Olympics, Inc., 211 East 43rd Street, Room 1205, New York, NY 10017.
