Bernice Kowalsky

Obituary of Bernice Kowalsky

Bernice Parman Kowalsky of Wappingers Falls passed on peacefully on Friday, October 26, 2018 at home. She was 91.

Bernice, “B”, was born in Floral Park, Long Island on June 23, 1927 to the late Ludwig and Marie Parman. She had an older brother, Herbert, and three older sisters, Edna, Dorothy and Mildred, all deceased.

On May 1, 1949, B married Henry “Hank” Kowalsky at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lynbrook; they were married for 60 years. Hank predeceased her in death, passing on April 29, 2010.

In 1950, the horse-lovers purchased 8.15 acres in Wappingers Falls. From then, weekends and vacations were spent with friends and relatives driving up to the old orchard to build a house. While they had no assurance that “Bell Tel” would give Hank a transfer of employment from Hempstead to Poughkeepsie, it finally came through on his birthday, November 24th of 1952; thank you, God! B will be remembered for her warmth and love to her family and friends, and her deep devotion to the Lord. She will be greatly missed.

Through the years B was blessed with four sons, Gary, Tim “Rook”, Ron and Terry “T”; four daughters through her sons’ marriages, Linda, Susan, Dareline and Cathy; grandchildren, Jonathan, Leighann, Christy, Trevor, Justin, Garrett, Jacqueline, Victoria, Hannah and Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Amelia and Veronica.

A friends and family celebration of Bernice’s life will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 11 am to 6 pm at the Kowalsky Family home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in B’s name to Faith Christian Academy, 25 Golf Club Lane, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
