Obituary of Anna Marie Romano
On Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Anna Marie Romano peacefully passed away after a brief illness. Anna Marie was born on February 3, 1922 in New York City to Nicholas and Isabella Marchisella.
She attended Hunter High School, Hunter College, and Columbia University. She started her career in education as a high school history and political science teacher in upstate New York. After starting her family, she switched to first grade. She spent over 30 years in the Wappingers Central School District, instilling fundamentals of learning in her first grade students.
After retirement, she traveled extensively and volunteered at Vassar Brothers Hospital and the FDR Mansion for the Dutchess County Tourism Association.
Anna Marie was passionate about her family, education, history and democracy, never missing an opportunity to vote or express her opinions.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Kuzara and her husband Robert, her daughter Isabelle DeFraia, her son John Romano and his wife Christine. Her first son, Anthony Romano Jr., predeceased her in 1984. She was the proud grandmother of 8 and great grandmother of 11.
Calling hours will be from 2-6 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2019 with eulogy and remembrances at 5 pm at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 am on Monday, January 7 at St. Mary’s Church, Convent Avenue in Wappingers Falls.
Entombment will be at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery upon completion of the new mausoleum.
