Obituary of Elise Sebastien Zephir

Elise Sebastien Zephir, a resident of Poughkeepsie, entered into rest Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh. She was 84.

She was born December 4, 1934 in Saint Thomas, US Virgin Islands to the late Olivier Valbrun Sebastien, Sr. and Alice Isabelle Maduro Sebastien.

Prior to her retirement, she had worked in administration at Tiffany’s and later Hills Department Store in New York City. She was with Hills for fifteen plus years and had received numerous awards for outstanding service and dedication. She had enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading as well as word search and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Inga M. White, Dolores A. Zephir, John P. Zephir and Jewel I. Zephir; her brother, Olivier V. Sebastien, Jr.; her grandchildren, Anthony P. Zephir, Jonathan D. Zephir, Nicholas Z. Zephir, Joseph N. Zephir, Christina N. Peters, Jason M. Peters, Elijah L. Preyer, Rakim R. Preyer, Aaliyah D. Preyer, and Naiquana O. White; her great-grandchildren, Camren J. Peters, Riley Preyer, Aurora Irby, Sevyn Irby, Jaquan White and Jayce White as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Tony C. Zephir on August 20, 1996.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service at 6 p.m. will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be at 12 noon on Saturday, November 23 at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, West Main Street in Wappingers Falls.
