Obituary of Shirley Joyce

Shirley Joyce of Hughsonville entered into rest on Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. Luke's-Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 84. Daughter of the late Francis and Helen Stalter Phillips, she was born on August 14, 1931 in Hughsonville. She married Patrick Joyce on January 9, 1954 in Hughsonville Presbyterian Church; Mr. Joyce preceded her in death passing on July 9, 2005. Mrs. Joyce worked for several area automotive dealerships throughout her career including Shaw Motors in Beacon, Parsons American Motors in Wappingers Falls and Northstar Lincoln Mercury in Poughkeepsie. She was a lifelong member of Hughsonville Presbyterian Church in Hughsonville. There, she taught Sunday school for many years. Shirley also enjoyed playing the organ. Survivors include her son, David P. Joyce; daughter, Barbara Jean Lewandowski; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Patrick, she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Palazzo, Gloria Morse, Ruth VanBuren and Katherine "Kay" Hartnett, and her brother, Francis "Jake" Phillips. A memorial service will be held graveside on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Wappingers Rural Cemetery, Wappingers Falls; Reverend Gail Burger will officiate.
