Samia Morcos

Obituary of Samia Morcos

Samia (Norma) Morcos, 69, of Wappingers Falls, passed away on Sunday October 4, 2020 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was a loving wife to Elia Morcos and a mother to her 4 children: Marline, Doli, Nicola and Nivine, who all adored her. She had many struggles in her lifetime. She came to the U.S. as a refugee when she was only 30 years old with her husband and 4 little children, with only the clothes on their backs. She found a way to build a new life with her family. She started working at a factory called Nanflower in Peekskill NY, not even knowing how to speak English, but that never stopped her. She wanted to learn and strive her hardest to adapt in a different world. In 2003, she and her husband Elia bought their first house together in Wappingers Falls. She loved Dutchess County because she loved to shop at the Poughkeepsie Galleria, then after, go dining with her daughters. She eventually opened up her own business in 2010 called Hudson Valley Cleaners located at Rt. 376 in Wappingers Falls, where she was a professional seamstress. She built her own business for almost 10 years. Customers came in as regulars because they loved her work and loved her very much. People use to say, walking into her dry cleaners was like walking into a family member's home. She welcomed everyone. Then in 2019, she endured health issues. At that moment, she still wanted to fight all the way through. She never gave up on anything. During the last few months in 2020 before her death, the good Lord was ready for her. She suffered tremendously. As much as she loved life and loved her family, it was time for her to be with her parents in heaven. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. In addition to her husband and children, survivors include her sister, Sonia Bahou and family; brother, Tony Khoury and family; sister, Marcelle Qazar and family; sister, Noha Nino and family; and grandchildren, Rami & Claire Akkawi. She was predeceased by her parents, Saliba & Melaka Khoury. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 12 noon at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 S. Grand Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Interment will follow in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Route 9, Fishkill.
