Obituary of James F. Browne

James F. Browne of Poughkeepsie passed away on September 20, 2015. Born in Beacon on July 18, 1927, Jim was the son of John Joseph and Mary Murnaghan Browne. On April 7, 1956 at St. John's Church in Beacon he married Mary Theresa McElduff; she predeceased him in death, passing on January 7, 2014. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Wappinger Falls and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1646. Jim grew up in Beacon and was one of five children. He attended Beacon High School and graduated from Fordham University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and always showed support for his fellow veterans. When his children were young, he was active in their scouting and sporting activities. In recent years he volunteered at Mt. Alvernia calling bingo and at the St. Mary's food pantry. He and his wife traveled extensively during their retirement years and Jim enjoyed researching their travel itinerary to make each trip more meaningful. He was especially proud of his dual American/Irish citizenship and enjoyed several trips to Ireland. Jim is survived by his six children: Mark Browne and wife Laurel of Kinderhook, Brian Browne and wife Marilyn of Delmar, Christopher Browne and wife Lisa of Middletown NJ, Monica Jones and husband Walter of Hyde Park, Stephen Browne of Balmville, and Jessica Farley and husband Tim of Valatie, his grandchildren: Conor, Caitlin and husband Dane Miller, Cristin, Trevor, Clare, Cormick, Charlot, Colleen, Margaret, Owen, Aidan, Catherine, John Paul and great-grandchilden, Lincoln and Sanderson. He is also survived by his sister Ann MacLeod and husband Norman of Beacon, his sister-in-law Sandy Browne of Beacon and his brother-in-law Bill Rippon of Greenville, NC. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph Browne (Marian) and Richard Browne, and his sister Mary Rippon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey, 55 East Main Street, Wappingers Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, 11 Clinton Street in Wappingers Falls at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 24. Entombment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Community Mausoleum, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie. The family would like to thank Jim's caregivers - Eva, Brenda, Donna, Jennie, Ann Marie, Jessica, Vanessa, Bernice, Abigail, June, Olivia and Rosa, for their caring, compassion and extraordinary kindness while he resided at the Manor at Woodside.
